What Is ISSA CIMS Certification and Does a Cleaning Company Need It?

CIMS is an industry standard certifying that a cleaning company's management systems conform to a defined framework, assessed independently. It says something real about how a company is run and nothing directly about how well your floor gets cleaned. If your specification requires it, say so at tender so suitable companies are approached. Broadway NY Cleaning does not hold CIMS certification, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

What CIMS Certifies

The Cleaning Industry Management Standard, administered by ISSA, assesses a company against a framework covering areas such as quality systems, service delivery, human resources, health and safety, and management commitment. It is assessed by an independent assessor rather than self-declared.

What it tells a buyer is that the company has documented systems and that somebody outside the company has checked they exist and are followed. That is a genuine signal, particularly when you are buying at scale and cannot inspect the operation yourself.

What It Does Not Tell You

It is a management-systems certification, not a measure of the work on your floor on a given Tuesday. A certified company with a thin specification on your premises will still deliver a thin service, and an uncertified company with the right hours and daily supervision can deliver an excellent one.

When to Require It

If your procurement process or your own compliance obligations require it, state it in the RFP. That way you approach companies that hold it, rather than discovering at decision stage that your preferred bidder cannot meet a requirement you had not mentioned.

Where We Stand

Broadway NY Cleaning holds neither CIMS nor Green Seal certification. We say so plainly because an implied credential does not survive verification during procurement, and being found out at that stage costs more than the certification would have.

In their absence, we ask to be assessed on what can be checked: cleaners employed directly and screened and trained before their first shift, work inspected by a supervisor daily rather than on a periodic audit cycle, a written scope with the labour-hours stated, and a telephone answered by a person at any hour.
